What are mandrel benders used for?

Bending is the most popular form of metal forming, which allows the material to be formed into the desired shape. Mainly pipes, sections and sheets are formed using specialised machines called benders. There are several types of benders in the industry. They differ in design, size and technological advancement. However, the principle of operation remains the same - bending metal products along vertical or horizontal planes.

Due to the type of bent material, there are following types of benders:

• sheet metal benders: flanging presses, bending brakes and segment benders
• section, wire and pipe benders: mandrel benders and non-mandrel bending machines.

In our plant we use both bending brakes and mandrel benders. Mandrel benders are made up of a mandrel which is slipped into a section or pipe, making it ideal for bending tight radii.

Our mandrel benders are also numerically controlled, which allows us to achieve high repeatability of bending. The end result is a product free of deformation and distortion. The elements bent by us are widely used in many areas of industry, mainly in the rehabilitation and medical sector.

Range of materials to be processed using 2D and 3D bending:

• pipes: from φ 15 to φ 50 with a maximum wall thickness of 3 mm.
• closed sections: from 20x20x1.0 to 50x50x3.0.
