How does powder coating protect against corrosion?

Powder coating is one of several methods for painting a surface that employs paint in the form of a fine powder. The metal s surface is thus protected from the damaging effects of corrosion. And how do we protect this surface? By spraying the special paint, the charged particles can reach every nook and cranny of the component to be painted, completely covering its surface. This coating is uniform and extremely airtight, forming a barrier separating the metal from the external environment, particularly moisture, which causes corrosion. However, the surface of the metal to be coated must not be rusted beforehand, which is why the surface of the painted metal must be properly prepared.

Powder coating is one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways to protect metal from corrosion. It is used in the majority of metalworking factories due to:

• maximum powder material utilisation
• the painted surface perfectly masks machining imperfections
• the painted surface is resistant to corrosion, mechanical and chemical damage as well as high temperatures
• fast and efficient operation of the powder coating oven
• no chemical emissions into the environment.
